The Millennium Institute of Astrophysics (MAS) is one the most important astronomical research centers in Chile. Their mission is to help Chile to become one of the world leaders in astronomy over the next decades, training scientists in this new era of digital data and contributing to the development of Chilean astronomy and its public evaluation. The Millennium Institute of Astrophysics is hosting various Asteroid Day events all over Chile, centered on the film projection of 51 Degrees North. The events confirmed thus far will be hosted in Santiago, Chile, listed below:

ASTEROID WRITING CONTEST

Primary and Secondary students from all parts of Chile can participate in the first version of this short-stories contest organized by the Millennium Institute of Astrophysics MAS and the UC s Institute of Astrophysics in partnership with Universidad de Santiago s Planetarium and Museo Interactivo Mirador. The students will have to tell a story, fiction or nonfiction, about asteroids to celebrate the International Asteroid Day.

The Millennium Institute of Astrophysics MAS and the UC s Institute of Astrophysics in partnership with Universidad de Santiago s Planetarium and Museo Interactivo Mirador, have come together to present the first asteroid short-story contest! The challenge is to write a story in only 108 words. Asteroid Day is held each year on the anniversary of the largest impact in recent history, the 1908 Tunguska event in Siberia. This year will be the 108-year anniversary of the impact, therefore the 108-word short story cleverly commemorates the 108 anniversary of the asteroid impact that affected Tunguska.
