Founded in 2001 in the capital Buenos Aires , El Firmamento was established in 2009 in Mendoza, a city located near the Andes Mountains. With attendance from the general public, families, educational establishments and Radio/TV channels, they present a mix of astronomy and tourism. El Firmamento provides attractive tours taking advantage of the night sky for observations in the surrounding region.
El Firmamento has already participated in at least 6 editions of Asteroid Day. Even with the restrictions of the pandemic, the group did not fail to participate. In 2020, the group produced an Asteroid Day virtual broadcast.
Supported by the Municipality of Mendoza, their events are free and open to all. Their 2021 edition was held at Terraza Jardín Mirador, an open-air space on top of a building with panoramic views.
An introductory lecture was given to teach the public about asteroids and their classification. They learned more about these celestial bodies, such as their dimensions, composition, location, and awareness of the consequences of impacts on our planet.
Most of the attendees of their events know nothing about asteroids, providing a unique opportunity to introduce the topic to them.
El Firmanento has explained that they are passionate about educating the public about astronomy and the importance of studying asteroids for the future preservation of humanity.
