Forward to the Moon

Description: What is Luxembourg‘s role in the new space economy and the utilization of resources and technology for lunar missions? This panel includes representatives from the European Space Agency as well as perspectives from Russia and China. Our panel will share their perspectives as we look at our heritage and future relationship to the moon as well as other resources from celestial objects.

The panel will offer commentary on exciting scientific discoveries made this last year coming from the current asteroid missions in space.

Technology’s Role in Advancing Asteroid Discovery

With the new technologies and advancement of telescopes and data analysis techniques, Asteroid discovery has been, and will continue, accelerating. This panel will discuss how computational capabilities of computers, charge-coupled devices (CCD), Graphics processing units (GPU), big data, cloud platforms like Google, AWS and Azure and other technologies are enabling new asteroid discoveries and tracking capabilities through advanced imaging, cloud-based data analysis and new visualization tools.

2019 is the 5th anniversary of Asteroid Day, come meet some of the original founding partners. Each will share their personal reasons to support the creation of Asteroid Day.  Discussion about growth of global events worldwide and their local events. The astronaut panelist will discuss how Asteroid Day’s mission aligns with the Association of Space Explorers (everyone who has been to space) and their goal to educate and inspire the world about space and asteroid education. Storytelling Tools for Complex Science

Scientific work is greatly enhanced by the ability to communicate as well as analyze complex data. Today’s technologies are advancing at a breakneck pace which helps us better understand our world. The panelists will share visualizations of new ways to understand and communicate what’s happening in the sciences through 3D, stereoscopic images, graphic maps, visual modeling and data presentations. Discussions of how enhanced storytelling, including immersive media  leads to better understanding, better science, and new breakthroughs.

Emerging and Current Asteroid Science

This panel will discuss everything asteroid related: from planetary science, meteorites, recent asteroid explosions, proposed space missions and new telescopes, even to the effects, consequences and risks of asteroid impacts and airbursts. Additionally, the panel will discuss the challenges of communicating asteroid risks and the role of the media.
