As we’ve told you already, Asteroid Day has set up headquarters in Luxembourg. And being based here, we will have the pleasure of attending ICT Spring from May 9 – 10. The yearly event is dedicated to exhibiting the latest trends and innovations, discussing their impact on society and the world, and connecting startups, researchers and decision makers from all over Europe with one another.
Asteroid Day Presence at ICT Spring
In 2017, the event is organised around 4 summits centred on a topic, one of which is “Space”, and this is where we come in. With 5,000 people from over 72 countries attending, we are hoping to get the word about Asteroid Day’s important mission out and meet with people from the sector to grow our network of supporters!
Over the course of the 2-day-event, we will be manning an information booth to promote Asteroid Day 2017. If you’re attending ICT Spring, feel free to come by for a chat! We will also try to cover some of the event or panels live on our Facebook page to bring ICT Spring into your home and get some insights and opinions from a couple of speakers. Therefore, make sure to keep checking our social media presences to not miss out on anything!
Promising Speakers
Besides our booth, we are looking forward to compelling meetings with guest speakers. Here are just a couple of big names among many other renowned guests: Hitoshi Kuninaka, Hayabusa2’s programme manager at JAXA, responsible for surveying the Ryugu asteroid and bringing samples back to Earth. Patrick Michel, international expert on asteroids working as research director at the CNRS and lead scientist of the Asteroid Impact Mission, as well as a member of the steering committee of the International Asteroid Warning Network (who will be giving a speech on Planetary Defense on May 10). Simonetta di Pippo, astrophysicist and director of UNOOSA who oversees the Register of Objects launched into outer space, and who is heavily engaged in outreach activities to promote benefits of outer space for humanity. And then there are of course NASA’s own Gary L. Martin, director of partnerships at NASA Ames, and Sam Scimeni, director for the ISS at NASA headquarters, as well as Nicolaus Hanowski, Head of Ground Segment and Mission Operations Department at ESA.
As for us, on May 10 at 9:50 am will be held a Q&A on “The Asteroid Threat” with our co-founder Grigorij Richters, Patrick Michel, and Moses Milazzo (Research Physical Scientist at the Astrogeology Science Center), moderated by Chris Welch, professor at the International Space University.
