David J. Eicher is editor-in-chief of Astronomy magazine, the world’s largest publication on the subject. He has spoken widely to groups and has written 10 books on astronomy, including The New Cosmos: Answering Astronomy’s Big Questions. Altogether, he has written 21 books on science and history. He is president of the Astronomy Foundation, the telescope industry’s first-ever trade association, and a member of the Board of Directors of the Starmus Festival. An avid observer of astronomical objects for more than 35 years, at age 15 he founded a magazine on observing galaxies, clusters, and nebulae called Deep Sky Monthly. In 1990 he was recognized by the International Astronomical Union with the naming of minor planet 3617 Eicher. He is an accomplished rock and blues drummer and plays with the Astronomy Blues Band. He is editor-in-chief of the Asteroid Day project.
