Invited guests only (event is not open to the public)

Dr. Don Yeomans, Fellow and Senior Research Scientist at JPL and recently retired Manager of NASA’s Near-Earth Object Program Office, will speak about the role that near-Earth comets and asteroids played in the origin of life on Earth and the threat they pose to current life on Earth.

Following the presentation, he will be joined by his JPL colleague and Research Scientist Dr. Lance Benner and Mr. William “Bill” Welser IV, Director of Engineering and Applied Sciences Department at RAND Corporation, to discuss the need for international cooperation, social awareness, the importance of characterizing the widely diverse population of near-Earth objects – and what we could do to deflect a threatening object.
