Lecture by Tihomir Marjanac, PhD at the Culture Center of Djakovo entitled “How to avoid an impact?” starting at 7 p.m. is held as part of the ASTRONAUTICS MONTH ĐAKOVO 2023 event, organized by the Croatian Astronautical and Rocket Association, the Croatian Association of Technical Culture, the Croatian Astronomical Association, the Astronomical Zadar Astronautical Society.
The lecture presents the types of potential impactors, impacts and their possible effects. Possible scenarios for impact protection and their limitations are also discussed.
Ph.D. Tihomir Marjanac is a retired geology professor who spent almost his entire working life at the Department of Geology at the Faculty of Science and Mathematics in Zagreb. In his youth, he was engaged in rocket modeling at the Trešnjevka Aeroclub and amateur rocketry at the Zagreb Astronautic and Rocket Club.
During his studies, he was involved in speleology at PD Željezničar in Zagreb. His scientific interests are wide ranging; from research for the needs of the oil industry, which he carried out in Croatia, Slovenia and Norway, to paleoclimate research, then meteorites and impact structures and their products, and earthquakes in the recent, but also ancient geological past.
He regularly participates in scientific popularization events such as the Science Festival, Asteroid Day, Astronautics Day, Astronautics Month, Space Evenings, Space Days, Researchers’ Night, etc. He cooperates with HTV and Croatian Radio, Meridijani magazine, Panopticum portal, etc.
