Loading Events

Asteroids are rocky remnants left over from the early formation of our solar system approximately 4.6 billion years ago! Join the Wallops Visitor Center on Friday, June 21 as we host games, activities, and challenges focusing on these solar system “fossils” and learn about ambitious asteroid missions, like Lucy, OSIRIS-REx, Psyche, and DART!

Guest Speaker Presentation: David Powars, United States Geological Survey Research Geologist and Scientist Emeritus at the Florence Bascom Geoscience Center (11 a.m.)

Approximately 35 million years ago, a 2-mile-wide meteor crashed into the western portion of the Atlantic Ocean, creating the Chesapeake Bay Impact Crater. Hear from David Powars, principal discoverer of the crater, as he shares the incredible story of how his team confirmed and mapped the largest impact crater in the United States!
