ASTEROID FOUNDATION ANNOUNCES 10TH ASTEROID DAY IN JUNE 2025

Join the celebration, meet astronauts, scientists and innovators, discuss asteroids, space, science, and planetary defense

Luxembourg, 12 June 2025 – The countdown has begun: This year marks the 10th edition of Asteroid Day, and the Asteroid Foundation is inviting everyone to participate in a three-day programme of space exploration and discovery in Luxembourg from 26 to 28 June 2025.

Featuring astronauts, scientists and space experts, this year’s edition emphasises the impact of space on our lives on Earth, the importance of asteroids in understanding our solar system, protecting our planet, and promoting sustainable resource use both in space and on Earth.

Recognised by the United Nations and held annually on 30 June, Asteroid Day honours the Tunguska, Siberia impact of an asteroid in 1908, the largest recorded impact in history. Led by the Luxembourg-based Asteroid Foundation with the support of the Luxembourg Space Agency (LSA), the programme engages both local and global audiences with the latest advancements in space science, asteroid missions, cutting-edge technologies and the future of sustainable space exploration.

The Asteroid Foundation invites the public to the following events:

Astronomer for a Night
26 June, 21.00 – 22.00, Forum da Vinci (6 Boulevard Grande-Duchesse Charlotte, L-1330 Ville-Haute Luxembourg)
A guided night sky observation with Gianluca Masi, astronomer at the Bellatrix Observatory in Rome and founder of the Virtual Telescope Project

Asteroid Day Space Lecture
27 June, 17.00 – 18.30, Cercle Cité (2 Rue Genistre, L-1623 Ville-Haute Luxembourg)
Case studies from ESA, GomSpace, and ClearSpace will offer a behind-the-scenes look at European space missions and technologies. Interactive Q&As, inspiring talks and insights from business leaders will spark fresh conversations across the space community. With dedicated networking sessions, the event is especially designed to connect university students, space professionals, experts, and curious minds.

Asteroid Day Festival
28 June, 10.00 – 18.00, Cercle Cité (2 Rue Genistre, L-1623 Ville-Haute Luxembourg)
An exclusive opportunity to meet with experts, astronauts, entrepreneurs and innovators, alongside hands-on, interactive workshops aimed at all ages. From augmented reality experiences and a pop-up planetarium to coding challenges and creative space-themed crafting, the programme invites participants to explore space in ways that inspire imagination and learning.
Engaging discussions will spotlight the future of space exploration, space medicine, asteroid missions, art and the role of cutting-edge technologies. The event also shines a light on space talent and education.

Astronaut for a Day
A special highlight is the announcement of the winners of the Astronaut for a Day competition organised by the Luxembourg Space Agency in collaboration with the Ministry of Economy, the Ministry of National Education, Children and Youth, and the Ministry of Sportsmat 14:00 in Cercle Cité.

Beneath The Silence of Space: A Sonified Journey
28 June, 19.30 – 20.30, Philharmonie Luxembourg, Salle de Musique de Chambre (1 Place de l’Europe, L-1499 Clausen-Luxembourg)
Discover a fusion of art and science by composer Peter Michael von der Nahmer and Seoul Institute animation students, interpreted by the Orchestre de Chambre du Luxembourg, as planetary defence and space science come alive through animation and music.
