Asteroid Day Affiliation:

Stuart has a long-standing relationship with Asteroid Day, having been associated with Asteroid Day from the beginning. He is an original Asteroid Day 100X Signatory, and hosted the panel discussion in London’s Science Museum during the first Asteroid Day in 2015. This was one of two broadcasts that launched Asteroid Day to a global audience on 30 June. The other was broadcast from the California Academy of Science that same day. In 2017, he also co-hosted the first Asteroid Day LIVE transmission from Luxembourg with Brian Cox, Sabinije Von Gaffke, Gianluca Masi and Nathalie Reuter. In preparation for the 6-hour live event, Stuart helped to shape the programme by helping to define the panel discussions.

An astronomer and award-winning science writer, Stuart holds a first class honours degree and a PhD in astrophysics. His journalism appears in the Guardian, New Scientist, BBC Focus and many other publications. He is the writer and presenter of Music of the Spheres, a series for BBC Radio 3, and author of several works of non-fiction and fiction, which have been translated into more than twenty-five languages. His latest book and Radio 3 series is Beneath the Night: how the stars have shaped the history of humankind. He is a Visiting Fellow at the University of Hertfordshire, a Fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society, and a former Vice Chair of the Association of British Science Writers. Since 2001, he has been a writer, editor and consultant for the European Space Agency. In September 2020, the University of Hertfordshire awarded him an honorary Doctor of Science degree for services to astronomy and the public understanding of science.
